Do you know an energy professional deserving of recognition?
An outstanding energy project?
A company, agency or organization with a noteworthy energy management plan?

Through the Awards Programs, AEE is able to recognize the important work being done in energy by individuals, organizations, agencies, and corporations.  By identifying those who exemplify the very best in their fields, energy professionals are honored and the industry is advanced.

Nominations for the NTAEE Chapter Awards are accepted through October 31st of each year.  Winners in the Chapter Awards Program receive their awards in December at the annual NTAEE Christmas Party.  NTAEE Chapter Award winners are nominated for the annual AEE Regional and International Awards programs.

Winners in the International Awards Program are presented with their awards at the AEE Awards Banquet held in conjunction with the World Energy Engineering Congress (WEEC).

Winners in the Regional Awards Program receive their awards on the day prior to the opening of the WEEC.

Congratulations to 2011 Chapter Award Recipients

NTAEE is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2011 Chapter Awards.  Congratulations to the following chapter members for receiving this notable recognition:

Energy Engineer of the Year

Presented for outstanding accomplishments in promoting the practices, principals and procedures of energy engineering, and for superior service to the Association.

2011 Recipient:  Kevin Chilcoat, P.E., CEM, CSDP, CEA, DGCP, Senior Principal Engineer, Frito-Lay/PepsiCo, Plano, TX.

Kevin is a leading expert in boiler, steam and combustion systems, and recognized authority on large company energy reduction programs.  Frito-Lay is an industry leader when it comes to energy efficiency.  Last year they reported electricity reductions of 22% for each bag of snacks produced compared to 1999 levels.  They’ve been an Energy Star partner since 2003 and were Energy Star Partner of the Year in 2006.  Kevin has been an internal leader applying innovative energy conservation measures on a large scale and has managed numerous major projects resulting in significant energy reductions.  One example is the Combined Heat and Power system installed at a Frito-Lay facility in Killingly, Connecticut.  This 275,000 square foot facility operates 24/7 processing over 250,000 lbs per day of corn and potatoes for snack foods.  The Killingly CHP project was developed to reduce total energy costs while addressing excessive electric grid congestion and reducing the plant’s environmental footprint.   A 4.6 megawatt natural gas fired turbine with heat recovery steam generator now serves 100% of the plant’s electric needs and 80% of its thermal needs.  Plant natural gas consumption increased 25% but electricity consumption decreased 94% and greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 15%. The CHP system performance has been excellent with an overall efficiency of 70%.  The project has been featured as a case study in a number of publications.  Kevin is a registered Professional Engineer and is a certified energy manager, a certified sustainable development professional, a certified energy auditor and a certified distributed generation professional.

Energy Professional Development of the Year

Presented for outstanding accomplishments in promoting the practices, principles of energy management and development, and for superior service to the Association.

2011 Recipient:  Lawrence A. Kramer, P.E., CEM, LC, Energy Engineer, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Board, DFW Airport, TX.

Larry Kramer is recognized for his dedicated work leading the NTAEE scholarship program and developing local student chapters of AEE.  Larry has been an AEE and NTAEE member since 1986 and he served on many of the chapter’s first energy conference committees and thus he’s been involved in energy professional development for many years.  He assumed the chair of the scholarship committee from Dick Turney in 2006 and built upon the excellent foundation that Dick established.  Over the past 5 years and under Larry’s leadership NTAEE has awarded 60 scholarships totaling $53,300.  Those students have received an additional $23,000 from the AEE Foundation meaning that over $76,000 in scholarship funds have been awarded to students in Texas studying energy related fields.  But what really set Larry apart this year is the work he did developing student chapters.  He began working with UNT to develop a student chapter back in 2007 and his efforts really began to bear fruit this year.  Recently, Cedar Valley and Mountain View colleges, both part of the Dallas County Community College District kicked off the first student chapter of AEE to be chartered in North Texas.  Another DCCD college, Richland College is seeking to expand the student chapter to its campus as well.  The University of Texas at Arlington held a chapter student chapter kick off meeting and continues to organize.  The University of North Texas is organizing and applying internally for recognized organizational status as a precondition for seeking chapter status.  North Texas may soon be home to as many as three AEE student chapters which will be the single largest concentration of student chapters in any state let alone region.  And if university student development weren’t enough, Larry also organized NTAEE participation in the Coppell High School Engineering Expo organized through their Engineering Booster Club as part of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math program.  Larry recently turned over the chair of the scholarship committee to Deylan Walker so that he could assume a new position as chair of the student chapter development committee and continue organizing and managing this notable effort.
